Northeast Alabama Community College Partners with Thrive Regional Partnership to Offer Free Digital Literacy Classes and Chromebooks

Rainsville, Ala. — Northeast Alabama Community College has partnered with Thrive Regional Partnership to offer free digital literacy classes through the Tech Goes Home program, expanding access to technology and essential digital skills for community members.

This opportunity is made possible through Thrives’ recent ARISE grant award from the Appalachian Regional Commission (ARC), which supports efforts to strengthen digital access and workforce readiness across the region.

Tech Goes Home offers a variety of digital literacy courses designed to meet different community needs. While some classes are geared toward senior adults and individuals seeking basic computer skills, additional courses are designed for small business owners, entrepreneurs, families, and adults looking to strengthen their digital skills for work and everyday life.

Participation is free, but class sizes are limited. The initial class is currently full, with 12 participants enrolled. Individuals may register to be placed on a waitlist for future Tech Goes Home classes by visiting https://bit.ly/NACC-Chromebook. Participants who complete the required 15 hours of instruction will receive a certificate
of completion and a free Chromebook at no cost.

Course topics include computer basics, setting up and managing a Gmail account, internet navigation, and online safety and cybersecurity fundamentals. Curriculum is tailored to the specific focus of each class, including small business and workforce-related instruction.

This initiative reflects a shared commitment to increasing digital access, improving workforce readiness, and ensuring community members have the tools needed to
succeed in today’s technologydriven world.

“Partnerships like the one between Northeast Alabama Community College and Thrive Regional Partnership are essential to regional progress,” said Dr. David Campbell,
president of Northeast Alabama Community College. “By working together, we are leveraging shared resources and programs to create meaningful opportunities for our
communities.”

The program is supported in part by a $2.87 million federal grant awarded to Thrive Regional Partnership by the Appalachian Regional Commission through the

Appalachian Regional Initiative for Stronger Economies (ARISE). The grant represents 56% of the total $5.13 million project cost for Thrives Regional Resource Hub, which
expands community leadership, capacitybuilding programs, and data resources across the tri-state greater Chattanooga region.

Tech Goes Home is a digital opportunity program of The Enterprise Center that began in Chattanooga, Tennessee, in 2015. Since its launch, the program has served more than 20,000 participants by providing the tools, education, and access needed to incorporate
technology into daily life.
