Applications Open for the 2026 Resilient Communities Program

Thrive Regional Partnership, in collaboration with the Open Space Institute, is now accepting applications for the 2026 Resilient Communities program, a unique opportunity for cities and towns across the 16-county Chattanooga region to strengthen their resilience to extreme weather events.
Resilient Communities equips local teams with professional guidance, facilitation, and technical assistance to assess vulnerabilities, set priorities, and design nature-based strategies that harness local expertise and natural assets. The program is made possible through funding from the Appalachian Regional Commission (ARC) and is offered at no cost to participating communities.
“Helping communities prepare for flooding, extreme heat, and other weather-related challenges is essential to building a stronger region. The Resilient Communities program supports local leaders in taking action today so their cities and towns can thrive for generations to come." -John Bilderback, Program Director, Thrive Regional Partnership
Who can apply? Organizations that bring people together—such as nonprofits, faith-based groups, libraries, and neighborhood associations—are encouraged to apply. Eligible applicants must be based in the 16-county greater Chattanooga region. Combined applications will be considered.
Information Session on September 23: To support interested applicants, Thrive Regional Partnership will host a virtual Lunch & Learn on September 23 at 12:30 PM Eastern Time to provide an overview of the program and answer questions about the application process.
If you have any questions about the Resilient Communities program or the application process, please contact John Bilderback, Program Director at jbilderback@thriveregion.org.
