South Chickamauga Creek Greenway: a Natural Oasis in Chattanooga's Urban Center

Summary:

A creekside urban trail comprised of paved and boardwalk sections, perfect for strolling, running, and bicycling. This easy trail is constructed of asphalt and boardwalk, making the terrain mild and pleasant. It meanders along South Chickamauga Creek for about 5 miles. Note that the route is currently out-and-back until the full greenway is completed.

Who’s Going to Love It:

This easy, accessible trail right in the middle of the city,  is a pleasant outing for all ages. Runners, walkers, and cyclists will enjoy the mild, winding route through lush green foliage alongside South Chickamauga Creek. Parents with strollers and fur-babies will appreciate the wide trail allowing comfortable space and safety.

Dog Friendly?

Yes, however, dogs must remain on leash.

Access Point:

This section of the South Chickamauga Creek Greenway is easily accessed from the Tennessee Riverwalk from Amnicola Highway. Other access points on the north section of the South Chickamauga Creek Greenway include Waterhaven Drive and and Shallowford Road.

Good to Know:

Eventually the two portions of South Chickamauga Creek Greenway will be connected, creating an enormous contiguous trail from Camp Jordan near Ringgold Road and the St. Elmo access point of the Tennessee Riverwalk. Visit the Trust for Public Land for more information.

Directions + Parking:

The access point intersects with the Tennessee Riverwalk on Lost Mound Road behind BASF on Amnicola Highway in Chattanooga. From Amnicola, turn onto Lost Mound Road behind BASF. Free parking is available along the Riverwalk. Follow the trail underneath the Amnicola overpass which connects to the South Chickamauga Creek Greenway. Look for the Trust for Public Land sign.
